History of Mayfair SDA Church

Evangelism and Church Growth is the life-blood of the Church. "When churches become too crowded, we should spread out and start the work in another area." It was this belief that prompted members of the Market and E. Seventh-day Adventist church, under the leadership of Dr. Ricardo Graham, to send volunteers over to the north side of Stockton and start a new church there.

After much prayer, and finding a church that would rent itself out on Sabbath (Saturday) to a small group of people, on July 11, 1986, 33 people with their families started worshiping at the Mayfair Christian Church.

"This Could Be the Start of Something Big" was the first sermon preached that day by Pastor James Washington, retired minister from the Sacramento Capitol City SDA Church of the Northern California Conference. http://ncc.adventist.org

News quickly spread that there was an Adventist church on the north side of Stockton. Many former members returned to church to see what was taking place. It was the Holy Spirit. The little company was blessed from the very first day with all the talent that any thriving church would need: Piano and organ players, choir director, singers, experienced elders, Sabbath School superintendent, deacons, and teachers of the various divisions. And of course the faithful seniors who knew how to pray for the growth and success of our new church. On November 14, 1987, the little group was organized into a company, and on May 16, 1992, with a membership of 77, we were officially accepted into the sisterhood of churches in the Northern California Conference.

Our church manifested the spirit of soul winning by passing out literature in the neighborhood and giving bible studies on a consistent basis.

A few years ago, we bought 6.7 acres of land, worth a million dollars for less than half of its value. After 19 years of renting, we are just about to start building our own church building.

It is no secret what God can do, what He has done for others, He can do for you!

A special thank you to former pastors and members of Mayfair who lent invaluable leadership to our church.
